Sometimes you have people on your list who are impossible to shop for. Use these gift ideas to knock them all out in one stop!

Gift Ideas for the Impossible People on Your List

This post may contain affiliate links. Full disclosure here.

If I’m spending my hard earned cash, I want to make sure I am able to take the time to really find presents that I think the recipient will love. There is nothing worse than just buying anything so you can mark that person off your list, right before seeing them for the holidays or other gift giving occasions.

So this past week I started to brainstorm gift ideas, especially for those hard to shop for individuals on my list. I’ve broken these gift ideas into categories for the: grown up kid, stressed out parent, blogger, book worm, sophisticated drinker, foodie, sports fan, traveler, little ones, and littlest ones.

If you’re looking for the categories of the techie, young at heart, recent empty nester, home-body, the runner, the jokester, the one with no space, the one who is always cold, animal lover, and the new adult as well as my favorite find of 2016 check out  Gift Ideas for The Extra Impossible People on Your List!

If my family is reading this… well I apologize if some of your gifts in the future may be spoiled…

For Yourself

Before you can make someone else happy, you need to be happy yourself. That is the saying, right? Well I’m going to pretend that is also the case for gift buying.

For the Grown-Up Kid

grown-up-kid

  • Lego Advent Calendar – Advent calendars were always so fun when I was younger. And now they make some seriously fun ones, like a Lego one. Each day it comes with a small scale model or figure.
  • A Board Game – everyone has the classics, but there are so many different board games these days. To say my husband and I have a good sized collection of them would be an understatement. A few of our favorites that are harder than the classics, but still easy to learn are Catan and Dominion.
  • A Video Game – I used to think video games were just for kids, but the older I get, the less I feel very “adult” anyway. Now I’m just a kid who has less time for things like video games. But I will admit, when I do sit down to play every so often, it’s usually fun and stress relieving. If someone on your list has a WiiU, I would highly recommend picking up Mario Maker. It’s a game where you can build your own side-scrolling Mario levels, like the old days, and play them as well as play others levels.

For the Stressed Out Parent

  • Aromatherapy – I’ve been hearing so many good things recently about essential oils. And what parent wouldn’t want to feel like they have a spa in their bathroom? I haven’t tried this diffuser before, but I have a friend who loves it and I may pick one up this year as a gift. Stress candles are also amazing.
  • An Amazing Coffee Pot – Ok, I’m not a stressed out parent yet, but I swear the Hamilton Beach 2-Way Brewer is the best coffee pot in the world. I’ve been through many machines sadly, until this one. This is honestly one of our favorite gifts from our wedding. It makes a strong pot of coffee quickly and it allows for you to brew just a cup or mug without any of those horrible pods. You just throw some grounds in the reusable filter on the side. I love it. We’ve been using this machine multiple times a day for the past 4 years and it’s still kicking like it’s new.
  • Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote– Whether this is for the kids or parents to enjoy (or likely both), this would be a great gift for a whole family. It connects to your TV’s HDMI port and is an easy way to enjoy over 250,000 TV episodes and movies on Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO GO, and Hulu, plus games, music, and more.

For the Blogger in Your Life

blogger

  • A Planner – Any planner will likely be appreciated. I finally picked up one for 2015 just for the last few months because that is how badly I needed one. But if I don’t receive one for Christmas this year (hint, nudge) I will likely grab this one.
  • A Blogging Book – I just downloaded this one for free (and you can too!) but it is also available in paper back.

For the Book Worm

book-worm

  • A Book – yup. Or you could go above and beyond and get them a signed copy of a book. I had no idea until recently that Target carries signed copies of books on their website.
  • Humans of New York – I know I’ve mentioned this book before, but I truly love the whole concept of HONY.
  • Cute Book Ends – like this wiener dog set. How cute is that?

For the Sophisticated Drinker

sophisticated-drinker

  • Whiskey Stones – My husband keeps trying to get me to like “good alcohol” but I just can’t seem to. However, I have learned a few things during my tastings. And I know watery alcohol is bad alcohol.
  • Their Favorite Drink with Fancy Glassware – sometimes the best gift is the obvious one. Adding in a few fancy glasses with a ribbon and a basket can really make this a great gift.
  • A Fancy Wine Rack – My favorite kind of wine racks are ones that look like sculptures. They are pretty with or without wine on them. I spotted this one recently and really love it.
  • Cordless/Rechargeable Wine Bottle OpenerThese may seem unnecessary, but let me tell you, they work amazingly and they’re really great to have around. Especially during parties. What? You didn’t go through 21 bottles of wine at your last party?

For the Foodie

foodie

  • KitchenAid Stand Mixer – in their favorite color of course. These stand mixers are a staple in anyone’s kitchen who loves to cook and bake.
  • A Large Crock Pot – I don’t know what I would do in the winters without my crock pot. Probably eat a lot of Ramen for dinner. And by having this large one I am able to make a couple days worth of food all at once.
  • A&B American Style Pepper Sauce Set – I don’t know about you, but everyone in my family loves spicy food – so assorted pepper sauce bottles are generally in at least one individual’s pile of gifts each year. I haven’t tried this set myself yet, but it’s on Oprah’s favorite things this year so I’m itching to give it a try! You can see all the flavor options HERE.

For the Sports Fan

sports-fan

  • A Jersey or T-shirt with Their Favorite Team – obviously. But did you know that Target.com has a whole fan shop area? With every major sport and team available, you can easily find what you’re looking for.
  • Beers on Tap at Home – What sports fan wouldn’t love to have beer on tap for their next big game?

For the Traveler

traveler

  • The Stars – Greater Skies will create a rendition of the stars and planets as they were on any given date, over any given location. Perfect for any nostalgic traveler! You can order yours HERE or read my post with more details HERE.
  • A Scratch Off Map – I love these. The whole map comes as one color and you can scratch off each country and state as you visit. I plan on grabbing one for myself down the road. The Luckies of London Scratch Mapis the one I have my eye on.
  • A SwissGear Backpack – Why SwissGear? Because they make the best backpacks. Seriously. I got one in high school and have been using it ever since. It has the perfect amount of pockets, it’s strong, and it’s been all over the world with me.

For the Little Ones

litle-ones

  • Art and Craft Supplies – I’m all about gifts for kids that are fun but also educational. Art supplies are the best. I may love this giant bucket of craft suppliessimply because of the name…
  • Melissa & Doug Pattern Blocks and Boards– did anyone else have these as a kid in their classrooms? I loved these, and again, it’s a toy that can be very educational.
  • A Little Passport – I came across this website recently and think it’s such a fun idea and would be a great gift. It is a monthly mail subscription that allows your child to “explore” the world and different topics. I have no experience with this site, but it looks great.

For the Littlest Ones

littlest-one

  • The BEST Pacifier – I know I don’t have my own yet, however I learned very quickly from my newborn photography job that not any pacifier will do. THIS is the best – it has also been verified recently by a new mother friend of mine.
  • Infantino Grow-with-me Activity Gym and Ball PitMaybe my baby fever is a bit too high, but this looks so cute and fun to me! It changes as the baby grows and eventually turns into a small ball pit. Love it.
  • A Robe – Am I the only one who loves those baby robes with the hoods? This shark one is so cute!

  1. You covered all the bases! I do have someone impossible. It becomes a problem when someone has NO hobbies or interests. Ugh. Maybe the coffee maker or some coffee….
Love the scratch off map! I may need that for myself!

    • It always amazes me when someone doesn’t DO anything. What do you do for fun? “idk, watch tv?” *shakes head* Good luck!

  2. Thanks for sharing this list and the Target deal! Now I need to reign in my insatiable need to “BUY ALL THE THINGS” at Christmastime. We’re trying our best to have a minimalist Christmas this year, but we do want to have a few things under the tree for the kids.

  3. Oh how I love a good gift guide! Haha this is great!

I’m so excited for the holidays this year – Santa may have already purchased all of Little Miss’s Christmas gift lol. Now the hard part is going to be waiting until Christmas morning to give them to her!

    • I don’t know how you do it! I bought a present for the hubby and I’m betting I cave before Christmas because I already want to give it to him lol I can only imagine the urge is stronger with a little one.

  4. Great list! I may start shopping at the end of this month. I think our Chromecast stick officially died so we may look into getting another casting device since my son loves his Netflix shows 🙂

    • Thanks! Our Chromecast died recently as well. Luckily we upgraded our tv a couple years ago to a smart tv (from an old tube tv ha) and it has Netflix in it. We don’t have cable so without it, we have just a blank tv.

  5. Great gift ideas! I can’t wait until Christmas this year and I’m so excited to start shopping for gifts 🙂

  6. This is so so so helpful! Thanks!

  7. Very helpful post! Might take few of these ideas for my holiday shopping 🙂

  8. This is an incredible list! I love the Lego advent calendar idea and also the little Passports–what a great gift for travelers-in-training 🙂

    • Isn’t that site adorable!? I fell in love with it as soon as I read what it was. And the lego advent is such a fun twist on that idea 🙂

  9. Thanks for all the ideas! I have some hard to buy for people so this is great!

  10. I am saving this post! Lots of good ideas. I’m trying to get all my Christmas shopping done by Dec 1 so I’m not stressed trying to buy presents after Baby #2 arrives. And I need those wiener dog bookends for myself!

    • Good luck to you! I try to do that for the most part as well, without a baby on the way lol And aren’t those book ends adorable? Target always gets me…

  11. Rae

Very, very clever and I can tell a lot of thought went into this!

    • Thanks Rae! It took more time than a normal post but it was so fun (and productive for my own shopping as well).

  12. If nothing else, you just gave me a ton of ideas of what to buy for myself! haha. I’m kind of kidding but kind of serious. These are awesome gifts!

    • Thanks! I want a bunch of them now as well haha The ones I really want will be gifts for my husband 😉

  13. Hey you have covered almost everyone. Thanks for sharing this wonderful ideas.

  14. So many great ideas here! I’m definitely getting someone that scratch off map and that cordless/rechargeable wine opener is genius!

    Jill
    Doused In Pink

    • Thanks, Jill! I’m secretly hoping someone buys me the map haha otherwise I’m sure I’ll cave and order it right after Christmas!

  15. Great gift ideas! And that lego advent calendar is AWESOME!

  16. Very very helpful list. Thanks for all the ideas! This list will help me a lot when I start shopping for Christmas at the end of this month.

  17. This list covers it all! Great ideas ♥♥

  18. BriLilian’s list. I like the stressed list and the idea of a board game. Coloring books for adults are good too

  19. That’s a great post. You got all the types of people covered. 🙂

  20. Oh man, I don’t even want to think about Christmas gifts yet! I don’t think I have anyone too difficult to buy for this year, but lists like this always give me great ideas. The hardest part for me is thinking up hostess gifts for holiday parties! I typically resort to just bringing flowers 🙂

    • Hostess gifts are hard! I used to always just go with a nice(ish) bottle of wine but this year I have so many pregnant friends that I may need to rethink that. Flowers is a good idea, if I can get them to survive in the cold car long enough haha

  21. This is a great list! I never would have thought of some of these!

  22. Great list! I see a lot of stuff i want, and maybe I’ll get a few for the hubby too 😉

  23. I love that Target has signed books! That is such a creative gift idea.

  24. Mar

Everyone says I’m impossible, but I would LOVE to get a planner every christmas!

  25. These are good ideas. I have been thinking about Christmas early because I am having surgery and won’t be able to shop. It will be online this year.

    • Online shopping is so nice sometimes though too! I’m hoping to have all my in store stuff picked out before Thanksgiving so I can enjoy the holiday season with a bit less crowds. And best of luck to you during your surgery and recovery!

  26. Great post. I am so at a loss this Christmas. Love the Weiner dog bookends!

  27. Such a great list! Love the Melissa and Doug puzzles. Just added those to my 3 year old’s list. Love the essential oils idea for parents- we love using ours! And that scratch off map is pretty neat too!

Thank you for all of the great ideas.

  32. Hil

Love it! So many great suggestions that I have a lot of them!

  33. Thanks for entering this list of wonderful ideas in #ThePinterestGame this week! I’ve been wondering how that Hamilton Beach coffee maker worked. I need a large coffee pot every day, but sometimes I just want a cup — and I don’t want ANOTHER appliance on my counter. This may be my next coffee maker purchase. 🙂

    • It’s honestly my favorite thing in the kitchen! And it’s been working great for 4 years or so now. 🙂

  34. Lots of great ideas! I have seen that Lego Advent calendar before and I love it!!

    • Me too! My husband wants one each year haha but I keep telling him to wait until we have kids but I’m thinking I may have to just get him one anyway next year.

  35. Jenny

Not such a helpful list IMO. When the person is “impossible” it usually means you’ve gone though all of these ideas already, or the person doesn’t fall into any of these categories. Like my brother, plays video games but has all the ones he would want and that would just be a waste of 80$ getting him one he wouldn’t like or play. Or, my SO who doesn’t really fit into any of these categories. I’m usually the one people go to for gift ideas, so when I can’t find anything for these 2 guys, they really are impossible to buy for!

    • Hi Jenny,
I’m sorry the list wasn’t more help to you! It’s hard to cover everyone in one list, but I was hoping to share lesser known products to help some. Best of luck to you on shopping for your impossible people on your list!

  36. My kids love Little Passports! Another subscription option they really like is Kiwi Crate. It’s a different concept (stuff to make/do), but still a subscription thing and still constructive. 🙂 And kids love to get mail, so that adds to the fun.

  37. This is such a great list with so many ideas! I even “purchased” the Kindle blogging book for myself 🙂 Thanks for the recommendation!
