Happy Friday! This week’s favorites are filled with an invention, photography, a new romantic comedy, quote products, and my wish list!

If you’re new to My Urban Family, welcome! Each Friday I round up my favorites from the past week – videos, photos, stories, funny items, and products. Let’s dive in!

Instagram Photo

It’s a good thing I took so many photos in Japan – it’s been cold and raining a lot lately in Chicago so my weekly Instagram photo is yet again one from Japan. If you’re interested in seeing more Japan photos, and hearing about the trip, make sure you check out this week’s post Visiting Japan – Osaka Edition.

A Watch that Quiets Parkinson’s Tremors

Microsoft developed a watch that “vibrates in a distinctive pattern to disrupt the feedback loop between brain and hand.” It helps eliminate the tremors so the device wearer can have a more steady hand and grip. This invention is so amazing – and the fact that it was designed because a graphic designer who wanted to continue her passion and career in design makes me extra happy. You can find out more information here.

The Big Sick

I’m such a sucker for romantic comedies but I haven’t seen a good one in awhile. Hoping this one is as good as the preview looks! What do you think?

Silence is Golden

I wish more people were fluent in silence. I know so many people hate silence but I love it. My favorite friends are the ones who I can chat with for hours but also who I can sit and enjoy the silence with on a road trip. It feels peaceful instead of awkward to me.

So when I saw this journal I figured I should buy it and carry it around, especially public places like the train. I was also thinking this would make a perfect book cover. Basically “don’t talk to me while I’m reading”. I also found this t-shirt which would do the same thing. Maybe I’ll get really salty one day and have it tattooed somewhere 😉

Wish List

Each week I find myself adding products to my Amazon wish list – it’s getting slightly out of hand. But it’s still fun so I decided to make it a part of my weekly post so you can also see what I have my eye on. If you have something fun you’ve found I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Friday Favorites Week 84

  1. I have not heard of this watch. It is so wonderful the inventions we are able to create in this world. Parkinson’s runs in my family so I’m always looking at new research. Wishing you a fantastic weekend.

    • Thanks Sheryl! Glad I was able to share it with you as well – hopefully it becomes available to everyone who could benefit from it soon!

  2. I’m really fascinated by the Parkinson’s device. That’s a disease that runs in my family, so I pay attention to the research, but had not heard of this development.

  3. I heard about that watch and its so awesome!! There’s also a spoon that does a similar thing so that the person can still feed themselves with the tremor!

  4. That watch is such an amazing invention and is going to help so many people. The Big Sick trailer looks good! Have a great weekend!

    Doused In Pink

    • Thanks! Each week I seem to find a trailer that looks great – and half the time they’re from Netflix.

  5. Wow, that watch sounds like such a neat invention! I love seeing more medical technology making life easier for people! Have a great weekend!

  6. I love the “I wish more people were fluent in silence” So true. When I was in school for counseling that was the most difficult skill to learn for sure. That parkinsons watch is cool too!

  7. That watch is awesome! How amazing.

I love the friends I have that can just sit in silence with me. 🙂

  8. I also love silence and do not get nearly enough of it at home. Ever. Oh well. That bracelet is amazing. What a wonderful thing for people affected by Parkinson’s.

  9. I love that silence quote. I have done that one in my hand lettering practice. Happy weekend!

  10. Haha I love the silence quote and that watch is a great invention.

  11. That watch sounds amazing! I had not heard of it before. What a blessing it would be to people with Parkinson’s.

  12. Hey girl,

How was your weekend? (I feel an odd sense of deja vu this week but I know I haven’t been by.). Has your rain seriously not gone away?! I need to send some sunshine down to you. It rained a tiny bit yesterday and it’s supposed to this Thursday, but otherwise it has been very spring-like. Chilly in the mornings and nice in the afternoons. 🙂

That watch Microsoft made is really something else. I’m gonna click on the link once I’m done here. I’m curious if there are patients using them now and what they think and if it’s improved their tremors.

I have your Japan post open in another tab. 🙂

Have a fab week my dear. 🙂 Tou guys have a holiday coming up next week, don’t you? We have next Monday off but I booked Friday off as well so hello 4-day weekend to me.

    Take care hun,

    • Well it’s raining again as I type this… but we’ve had LOTS of sun so this time I don’t mind! Hope you had an amazing four day weekend! Looks like I had one the following weekend – don’t you wish they were all like that?
