Happy Friday! This week’s favorites are filled with another Japan photo, a magic way to remove blackheads, a cute video, exciting Starbucks news, rain boot poll, and my wish list!

If you’re new to My Urban Family, welcome! Each Friday I round up my favorites from the past week – videos, photos, stories, funny items, and products. Let’s dive in!

Instagram Photo

This week I shared another one of my favorite photos from my trip to Japan. The photo was taken outside of Osaka Castle. I took a couple hundred photos there that day – so you can see why it’s taking so long to pick my favorites!

Goodbye Blackheads

Has anyone else been overwhelmed with the videos online of the charcoal masks? Everywhere I turn there seems to be another person pulling off half their skin with these masks. And then when I go to read the comments and reviews, it seems like they don’t actually work which is a shame.

But because I kept seeing these videos I decided to do some research and see if I could find a solution that actually worked. Let me tell you, these Biore Nose Strips worked disgustingly well. And by that, I mean the amount of crap they grabbed was mesmerizing and slightly nauseating. I highly recommend them, just don’t stare at the strips too long afterwards.

World’s Largest Starbucks

If you know me, you know that I love coffee – I drink it all day long. 10pm? Perfect time for a cup! 6am? Don’t talk to me unless you’re handing me a cup of coffee. So you can imagine I was excited when I heard that Chicago is the location of Starbuck’s newest concept – a 43,000-sq.ft. Reserve Roastery. It’s going to be walking distance from me (keep in mind my version of walking distance is anything under 5 miles or so) and the location will be dedicated to roasting, brewing and packaging rare, small-batch Starbucks Roastery Reserve coffees from around the world. Yes please.

Baby Meets the Rain

This video is beyond adorable. To say I have baby fever is an understatement. I cannot wait for moments like this.

Rain Boots – Yes or No?

I have never owned a pair of rain boots – or at least not that I can remember. I’m sure my parents bought me a tiny pink pair when I was small.

But with the amount of rain Chicago has been getting I’ve been eying these… I’m not too sure if they’re too loud for an almost 30 year old or if I should just go for it. Thoughts? Color choice?

Wish List

Each week I find myself adding products to my Amazon wish list – it’s getting slightly out of hand. But it’s still fun so I decided to make it a part of my weekly post so you can also see what I have my eye on. If you have something fun you’ve found I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

  1. I love the boots. I might get a pair myself. And baby’s first rainfall? Adorable!
But that Starbucks Reserve might make me consider moving to Chicago. How inviting does that building look!

    • I’m sure that building will be packed all the time! And if you do get a pair, let me know! I’m still debating on color haha

  2. What fun! I love favorites lists! Good (if, necessarily, a little gross) to know about those nose strips. Thanks for doing the research and reporting your findings for the skin-challenged among us. And YES, you should get rainboots. I also live in the rain-soaked Midwest, and I love mine. The only advice I might give would be to possibly consider a more neutral color? I have fabulous pink/green/yellow zig-zag boots, and they are adorable and fun. But I have a hard time “coordinating” the rest of my outfit with them when I want to wear them for, say, running errands on a rainy day. But maybe that’s just me. It’s probably worth noting that I am an old mom of a VERY fashion-opinionated 13-year-old, so what I can get away with is probably different from what you can pull off. In retrospect, I should have gotten black-and-white polka dot boots: classic, but still fun. Okay, that was probably way more than you wanted to know when you asked for feedback. Have a fabulous Friday! #FridayFrivolity

    • Your coordination comment is so true – and I really appreciate it! I wasn’t thinking about matching my coat or anything but it’s something to keep in mind. I don’t have an opinionated 13 year old to say anything, but my family would haha

  3. Do the strips hurt when you remove them? That Japan photo is so beautiful–you should share more pictures from that trip in a separate travel post!
I’ve heard those rain boots are wildly uncomfortable but very good at keeping your feet dry.

    • No, not really! It’s less painful than a band aid for sure! And thanks – I keep planning to but then I end up working too much during the week to put a post together – hopefully soon! And good to know – I haven’t heard that they are uncomfortable but I suppose rubber could easily give blisters!

  4. AH Biore! I love love love those strips. I haven’t used them in years and now want to go buy a box. Totally get some rain boots – I’ve had a pair of Hunters for about 7 years now that still look amazing and protect my feet. Stopping over from the link up! Hope you can hop by my blog as well. Have a great weekend!

    • They’re so satisfying! And thanks for visiting – heading back to your blog again now 🙂

  5. I HAVE to go to that Starbucks, oh my gosh! I will be making a road trip with my husband just to be there because coffee is life haha!!

  6. That Starbucks is HUGE!!!!! And I bet it’ll be busy every second of the day. I think the boots are cute but I couldn’t get away with the bright yellow. I say you should go for it though!

  7. That Starbucks looks like the mecca of all coffee! I would love to go there!

  8. Yeah I’m going to have to make a pilgrimage to Mecca….I mean that Starbucks. Although I seem to have found the barista from hell. Who knew Starbucks had one of those??
That baby in the rain is so cute! Happy Friday!

    • Oh no! Well hopefully there will be no shitty baristas at this location! Only the best of the best!

  9. I say YES to rain boots! I’ve never owned a pair either, but I always love how they look! Also, I used to live in Chicago, it was one of my favorite places! 🙂

  10. Bioré is my JAM! And my Burberry rainbows are coming in so handy right now!

  11. Love the boots! I have polka dots and they are extremely useful!! Starbucks…ummm heck yeah! That’s awesome!

  12. Those strips sound great – I might need to try them out!

I’ve never had rain boots either, but there are some really cute ones.

  13. jillian

i love my hunter rain boots but i wish i had some shorter ones! xo jillian – cornflake dreams

  14. I was actually toying with getting rainboots myself. I got a pair for each of my boys, and they think they are the best things ever, so I say you should go for it. The brighter the better!

    • You should! It would be fun for you to have matching ones with your boys – or at least wear them all together 🙂

  15. Kim

Holy Starbucks! That place is HUGE! IF its not charcoal masks its the charcoal toothpaste. I need to try the strips though because there is no way Im doing my whole face LOL

    • There is something about that charcoal toothpaste that makes me want to gag every time I see those videos. And these strips don’t hurt – some of those masks look like torture!

  16. That baby meets rain photo is so cute!! I love it!

  17. We have had rain all week, so those rain boots look very appealing! I’m not a coffee drinker, but the new Starbucks place looks so cool.

  18. I own zebra-striped rain boots and I’m in my 40s, so get those bright boots! (visiting from The Peaceful Posse)

  19. I’m really excited about that new Starbucks concept! 2019 seems like a long way off but you know it will be here in the blink of an eye! That rain video is so sweet!

  20. Happy MAY!
How was your weekend?! I hope it was a good one for you. 🙂

Are people seriously pulling off skin with the charcoal masks? That’s crazy. I’ve always thought those biore strips work amazingly well. I’m fine with those thank you, if it saves layers of my skin.

The small glimpse of Osaka castle is GORGEOUS! We’re cherry blossoms blooming when you were there or was it too early/late?

Have a wonderful week hun. 🙂

    Xo

    • Those masks look like torture in some of those videos! And the strips do work so well!
We were too early for the cherry blossoms unfortunately – but have you ever been to Washington DC? They have a ton of them there and I’ve been while they were blossoming – so beautiful!

  21. Get the boots & who cares what anyone else thinks? The baby is so cute! I don’t like Starbucks’s coffee 😛 but that is a really cool building.

  22. GET THE BOOTS!!!! 🙂 Also I want to go to the worlds largest starbucks, why does it have to be sooooooo far away from me ha ha

  23. Maybe I will go to Chicago to make a cup of Starbuck 🙂 🙂 At my place, Starbuck is not cheap, so I just go there once a week, great!

    • It’s expensive here too – and I’m sure this place will be even more so – but still worth a visit!

  24. First of all, I lived in Chicago in my early 20s, and it was so amazing. I miss it even still! Second of all, I am a Seattleite born and raised, and we (of course) love our Starbucks. 🙂 I have visited one of the reserve locations (in Seattle), and it’s AMAZING. 🙂
