Time for another round of Friday Favorites! This week I’m making up for two weeks so get ready! This week’s favorites are filled with humor, the Chicago flag, Twitter, IG, a new vacuum, and a wish list.

If you’re new to My Urban Family, welcome! Each Friday I round up my favorites from the past week – videos, photos, stories, funny items, and products. Let’s dive in!

I shared this image on my last Life Lately post (if you missed that, go see where I’ve been lately and what I’ve been up to!) but I had to share one more time. It’s my favorite photograph that I’ve taken recently and it really reflects what type of year I’m having so far in 2017.

Twitter Followers

Are you following along with My Urban Family on Twitter? No? You mean you’re not one of my 10.2k followers?

You read that right, 10,200 followers! I thought I was dreaming when I logged in and saw that number. If you are one of my followers, let me tell you that I appreciate it and I am so honored.

Hotter… Hotter…

Anyone else shower like this? I do this even in the summer…

Chicago Flag Meaning

Chicagoans love our flag. I don’t know a city that is as obsessed with their flag like Chicago is. I know so many people with Chicago flag tattoos. I’ve even considered one myself. For those who don’t know the meaning behind our flag, I found this image that briefly explains each element.

Shark Rocket Vacuum

You’re officially an adult when you get excited about a new vacuum, right? I guess I’m finally there. This past week I decided to get rid of my heavy, big vacuum for one that is more condo friendly. This one is half the size, about a fifth the weight, and works just as well if not better. I wish I had done this when we first moved! This one can also be used just as a hand vac. It might take some getting used to since it has a cord, but it’s so powerful (and the battery won’t start to die within a year) that I’m quickly loving it.

This Week’s Wish List

Each week I find myself adding products to my Amazon wish list – it’s getting slightly out of hand. But it’s still fun so I decided to make it a part of my weekly post so you can also see what I have my eye on. If you have something fun you’ve found I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

  1. Yes on the showers, the hotter the better I always say! Or a hot, hot bath! I also get excited about things like a new vacuum. Then again, vacuuming is my favorite chore because I’m weird, lol. Have a great weekend!

    • I kind of like vacuuming as well! It’s so satisfying to get all the dust and dirt (and kind of disgusting when you see how much you got haha)

  2. Wow! Congrats on the Twitter following! That is pretty impressive! I hated Twitter until recently and I find growth to be so slow. I am extremely impressed with your numbers! Also, my husband takes showers like that. I have no idea how he likes it so hot…but then again, I’m like that when i take a bubble bath.

    • Aww, thanks! It’s taken awhile but the longer I’ve worked at it, the faster the number started to grow 🙂

  3. That shower thing is so accurate for me in the Winter haha! Thanks for sharing my link! Enjoy your Easter buffet 🙂

  4. That shower photo is me hahaha My husband is always befuddled by how hot I like it

  5. I don’t even know what the Minneapolis flag looks like. I didn’t even know cities had flags. hmm.
I am with you on the vacuum thing. I got a Dyson recently and its a game changer. Have a good weekend!

    • I don’t think many cities use their flags nearly as much as Chicago. Ours is everywhere downtown haha

  6. Congrats on reaching so many twitter followers! That’s incredible 🙂

Also that’s totally me in the shower. My bf always tells me my skin is going to fall off one day lol.

I didn’t know that re the Chicago flag! Thanks for sharing 🙂 hope you have a great weekend!

    • Thanks! I was excited to hit that goal 🙂 Now to focus on a different social media outlet. And that makes me laugh about your skin falling off. I always look like i have a full body sunburn when I get out of the hot hot shower ha

  7. I’m crazy about the Chi flag and think it’s one of the best anywhere. I’m thrilled race directors are picking up on its awesomeness and making glag-inspired medals, race shirts, etc. Happy Friday!

  8. That is totally me in the shower. I had to turn up the temperature on our hot water heater because it wasn’t hot enough anymore 😉 So cool about your flag. I’ll have to look up ours now. Happy holiday weekend!

    • Thanks, hope you had a great holiday weekend as well! And I did that as soon as we moved in! How do people take lukewarm showers?!

  9. I’m definitely at that age where I get excited about a good vacuum cleaner 🙂

  10. Way to go on your Twitter followers!! That’s such a huge accomplishment. That comic made me laugh! I am so that girl!

  11. The shower can never be hot enough. It simply is the best way to treat yourself with the hottest possible surroundings (if that is OK English – I am not native).

Seriously. I did a very simple experiment to check how much time I need in summer/winter:

    1. I shower 10 minutes and 30 seconds during winter time.
    2. I shower less than 5 minutes during summer time.

So: is the shower a place to get hot or to get clean? I´d point towards the first…

    • Haha, I agree! Obviously getting clean is a perk, but really I take a shower to warm up and relax.

  12. Hey girlfriend,
How is it Wednesday already?! Yikes! So late to the party.
That vacuum looks pretty awesome. I’ve got to start thinking about them as ours is about 10 years old and I don’t want to have to make any quick decisions when ours does. Oh adulting is great, isn’t it? lol
    I hope you’re having a great week Alex. 😉

    • I also take ridiculous long showers too; my inlaws used to live on a property with a well and it was always a concern when I’d hop in the drink. “Is she going to use all the hot water?” Lol!

    • Hope you had a great week as well! Our vacuum is only five years old but it’s ridiculously big and heavy for our tiny space. I still need to decide what to do with it now that I really like our new one. And I almost always use up all the hot water when I shower ha

  13. Haha! That’s definitely me in the shower, even in the summer too! That photo is breathtaking!

  14. Congrats on the Twitter followers!! Haha, I know what you mean about vacuum cleaners too. 😀 My mum got a Shark recently and swears by it – so now I’m being tempted too! #FridayFrivolity

    • The shark is GREAT! Seriously, mine weighs 7 pounds and picks up more than my previous, heavier, more expensive vacuum.
